a low environmental impact race located in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains,
just a few miles from the Indian Peaks Wilderness. The course is accurately
measured and begins at an altitude of approximately 8400'. The race is known to be competitive, fun, well-established and dear to many people’s hearts in the community. The event is organized by the Nederland Area Chamber of Commerce and proceeds will help green local businesses – with the help of Boulder County’s PACE program (Partners for A Clean Environment) – and support the economic sustainability of the Nederland area (for more information see Beneficiaries). Twenty-five years ago Kay Turnbaugh and Chuck Webb started the Neder-Nederland. Kay says she
started it because she thought it would be good for all the different people in the area to
have something fun to do that does not require a lot of equipment or experience. There was a lot
to do and the race would not have happened without Kay and the other volunteers. The early years
proceeds went to the Town of Nederland to run a great kid’s summer recreation program with
the University of Colorado.
When Pat Willits was director, the night before the race his mother ironed and folded the T-shirts for the next day. Pat rode in the back of a red convertible to announce the race. Nature’s Own was always a big supporter providing the unique geode trophies. Through the years many businesses have contributed. Race director Rob Linde kept it going after Kay and Pat. It was hard to find a director after that. After running the race one year, Judy Moir wrote the Nederland Chamber of Commerce to say how it could be better, Deb Goldberg responded with “It sounds like you know what should be done, would you like to do it?” Judy directed the race and measured the course with Benji Durden, who broke his collarbone while riding a bike and measuring. Judy connected up with Peter Richards who brought accurate timing to the race along with the association with the BC3 (The Boulder County 3) the Sunrise Stampede, The Lyons River Run and the Ned-Ned. Now there are four races with the inclusion of Joe Colton’s Off Road Adventure Run. Through the years the weather has played all its tricks: snow, wind, rain, heat and cold. Usually it’s a beautiful blue-sky day among the changing aspen. You never know. There have been a lot of runners through the years, young and old, teams and costumes. The Ober-Nederland group run to the turn around point but keep on going, all the way up to Caribou and back to town. Makes the fun run sound fun.

if you or your business is interested in volunteering.
Sponsorship and Marketing Opportunities
| The Neder-Nederland offers different levels of sponsorship and other marketing opportunities including booth space, banners, Welcome Runners signs, volunteering, and advertisement space on race bibs, registration bags, and after-race postcards. Fleet Feet,
a drop-off site. One World Running (Shoes for Africa) is a Colorado non-profit organization with federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. They send shoes to sub-Saharan Africa, Haiti and Central America. The majority of shoes come from individuals, from running clubs, and Girl Scout troops that put on shoe drives. Some of the shoes are new; many are “near-new,” which are the ones sent overseas. The shoes that are used and not suitable for shipment are sent to Nike in Beaverton, OR, through Boulder’s Eco-Cycle program. There they will be ground up and made into running tracks and playgrounds through the Reuse-a-Shoe program.
